I really wanted the base to be metal but have no concerns now that I have the table in place. Similar tables with metal bases are twice the price and this turned out not to be a big deal. It is a large table. I can place eight chairs. One thing that's been noted is that the table has grooves so food can get in the crevasses and may be hard to clean. I can see that but will have to put up with that cause it's so nice. The other thing is that it is a little rough and may cause splinters. This is a wood farmhouse style table.
